The Public Space Cards will be packaged with a map of all locations.

I am looking for an artist who can do approximately 12 sketches for a book whose text is almost complete.  The sketches would be interpretive landscapes, all in or near downtown Salem.  The book features historic sites in Salem located near either the North River or South River whose surroundings have been completely changed by filling in the rivers.  Photos would show the sites and their surroundings as they currently exist; the sketches would show them as they existed in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries.  Although the sketches would be interpretive, I am able to supply much concrete information about the sites’ original appearance.

The book will be self published and sold primarily in Salem.  I have done 3 previous booklets about Salem that sold almost exclusively in gift shops in Salem.  The booklets were extremely successful, combined selling just under 100,000 copies over several years.  However, the success of any book is uncertain so, ideally, I am looking for someone willing to work on contingency.  I would be generous.  If you are interested in such an arrangement or would like to discuss a flat fee please contact me at

    About the Author:

My name is William Story.  I was born and raised in Salem but have lived in Peabody for many years.  The booklets that I mentioned, now out of print, are “The Witchcraft Hysteria of Salem Town and Salem Village in 1692,” a guide to sites in Salem, Danvers and Peabody that were associated with the hysteria; “The Four Historic Faces of Salem, Massachusetts,” a guide to sites associated with the witchcraft delusion of 1692, Salem’s maritime greatness, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Salem’s historic architecture; and "True Stories of Courage and Defiance from the Witchcraft Hysteria of 1692."  In addition I co-authored with the late Robert E. Cahill, former sheriff of Essex County, two historical novels based on fact.  I have also published 3 novels with such New York publishers as Doubleday and St.Martin’s Press.
