Artist Statement

My name is Erin Survilas, and I am a painting student studying at Montserrat College of Art. Within my arts practice, I have a large focus on feminism and self care within my own body, as well as playing with emotion and color psychology.  I aim to present the peacefulness and the emotional attachment that comes within all acts of self care in a positive light for my audience to relate to and enjoy. As explained by the Oxford Dictionary, self care is described to be “ the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness”. I aim for my paintings to not only represent these acts, but for the creation of the painting to be an act of well-being in itself. By focusing on these rituals, I noticed how cyclical my body is, connecting the relationship between self care and my body’s needs. While not all acts of self care are approachable to others, I want to romanticize all aspects of taking care of oneself.

Open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.
